BREL em FALL RIVER

Vai estrear amanhã, dia 14, no LITTLE THEATRE FIRE BARN em FALL RIVER, o musical "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris."

Em Maio foram feitas audições para 2 homens e 2 mulheres (tenor, barítono, soprano e alto) e agora o espectáculo pode ser visto até ao próximo dia 24 com Richard Brosky, Kelly Camara, David Jones, e Katie Mello. É produzido e realizado por Roberto Santo Christo Soares, com a direcção musical de Esther Zabinski. Fernando Goulart é o director de cena.

Como já referi aqui neste blog várias vezes este espectáculo estreou-se nos E.U.A. em 1968 sob a direcção de Mort Shuman e Eric Blau, tendo depois sido levado à cena noutros palcos nos Estados Unidos e em muitos outros países.

Eis algumas palavras de ROBERTO SOARES, produtor, sobre o espectáculo e sobre Brel:

"There are shows that follow you throughout your life waiting for the right time to be shared with an audience. This has certainly been one of those shows. I first stumbled across its film version in 1975, and was immediately grabbed by its exploration of love, both real and unrequited, loss, death, loss of innocence, the rewriting of history, aging, loneliness, desire, pain, joy, anguish, and hope. In other words — LIFE. As I have aged, Brel’s words have become more and more personal, and the truth of them is staggering."

A canção LA MORT foi traduzida para inglês por Shuman e Blau para o espectáculo “Jacques Brel is alive and well and living in Paris”. Depois disso foi cantada, além de Shuman, por Amanda McBroom, Scott Walker, Marc Almond e David Bowie, estes os mais representativos dos 42 intérpretes de LA MORT que se conhecem. ALMOND ALONE

Marc Almond (ex Soft Cell) gravou em 1989 um disco intitulado JACQUES com treze canções de Brel em inglês. Uma dessas canções é ALONE, no original SEUL.
É notória a fraquíssima qualidade do texto de Eric Blau, que o escreveu para o musical “Jacques Brel is well and alive and living in Paris”. O original de Brel não tem comparação nem literária nem poética. Para comparação transcrevo o texto em inglês. O texto de Brel pode ser consultado no post de ontem.

Já AQUI falei no espectáculo JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PARIS que tem por base canções de Jacques Brel traduzidas para inglês, por Mort Shuman e Eric Blau.
Uma dessas canções, AU SUIVANT (NEXT), já teve variadas adaptações, e agora, um destes dias, descobri mais uma no youtube. Um versão por Alex Harvey Band, um grupo inglês que leva muito a sério esta interpretação de AU SUIVANT.

CAROUSEL

No dia 22 de Janeiro de 1968 foi estreado na Broadway o espectáculo “Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris” baseado nos textos das canções de Brel.
No entanto, a tradução dos textos para inglês (para americano ouvir) deixa muito a desejar. Salvaram-se unicamente as melodias porque até as interpretações deixaram de ter qualquer tipo de emoção e passaram a meros números do showbiz, ao gosto bem americano e sempre visto e revisto nos musicais da Broadway, ou nos filmes de Hollywood.
As traduções de 25 canções de Jacques Brel foram feitas por Eric Blau e Mort Shuman. E hoje por curiosidade dou a conhecer uma delas. Depois de se ler o texto e ouvir o senhor John (no vídeo) tirem as vossas conclusões. O original chama-se “La valse à mille temps” .

NEXT

Ontem dei a conhecer a interpretação bem estranha da canção de Brel "AU SUIVANT" pelo senhor Matthieu -M- CHEDID. A mesma canção já foi cantada em inglês pelo Scott Walker e chamava-se NEXT. Mas hoje encontrei esta versão, interpretada pelo irlandês JACK L, bem menos polida que a do Scott.
O texto em inglês é de MORT SHUMAN. Este autor, em parceria com Eric Blau, escreveu o musical "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris" em 1968.

JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PARIS

JACQUES BREL ESTÁ VIVO E BEM DE SAÚDE E VIVE EM PARIS

Este é o título de um espectáculo musical produzido por ERIC BLAU, estreado a 22 de Janeiro de 1968 no THE VILLAGE GATE THEATER (New York) onde esteve mais de 4 anos em cena. Nele participavam apenas 4 cantores: Shawn Elliot, Alice Whitefield, Elly Stone (mulher do produtor) e um cantor e compositor americano que ficou célebre nos anos 60 por ter composto diversos êxitos para a música pop, e de onde se destaca o famoso LE LAC MAJEUR, interpretado por si mesmo: MORT SHUMAN.
O espectáculo consistia na dramatização de 25 canções de Brel traduzidas para inglês por Blau e Shuman e houve muito americano que pensou tratar-se de um produto cem por cento americano e que Jacques Brel era uma personagem imaginária…
Este Musical dedicado a Brel celebrou o seu 5º aniversário no Carnegie Hall com um espectáculo, agora intitulado “Homenagem a BREL” e onde participavam 22 artistas.
Jacques Brel esteve presente nesta homenagem.
Em 1974 o espectáculo original foi reposto no Astor Place Theater.
Em 1988 voltou à cena para celebrar o 20ºaniversário no Town Hall em Manhattan e no Kennedy Center , Washington, DC, e em 1995 foi feita outra reposição em Londres.
Em 2006 “JACQUES BREL ESTÁ VIVO E BEM DE SAÚDE E VIVE EM PARIS” volta a Nova Iorque onde foi reposto em cena no Zipper Theater .
Fora dos Estados Unidos este musical foi apresentado no Canadá (1968), África do Sul (1970), e posteriormente em Sidney, Paris, Dublin, Amesterdão e Copenhaga.
Entretanto, vários discos e vídeos já foram feitos destas versões do musical.
